10 Ways to Celebrate International Women’s Day with Your Children

March 8th is International Women’s Day–a day which seeks to increase gender equality.  International Women’s Day is celebrated around the world and is a focal point for the women’s rights movement. In the last few years, women have made incredible bounds. Just this year alone, we have named our first female Vice President, women have dominated the music industry, and have been the organizers of numerous social justice initiatives such as Black Lives Matter.

It’s very clear women are leading the charge towards a better future.

To celebrate, we wanted to share 10 ways to embrace International Women’s Day this year for yourself or with your kids!

Donate to:

  • Planned Parenthood: delivers vital reproductive health care, sex education, and information to millions of people worldwide.
  • Local Domestic Violence Shelters. Find nearby shelters here.
  • Baby2Baby– provide a day’s worth of diapers to a baby in poverty

  • Knock Down the House: Documentary on the 2018 congressional primary campaigns of Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez, Amy Viela, Cori Bush, and Paula Jean Swearengin.
  • He Named Me Malala: Story of how Pakistani teenager Malala Yousafzai emerged as an advocate for children’s rights.
  • Girl Rising: featuring the stories of 9 girls from developing countries overcoming great obstacles.

For Yourself & Kids:

  • Schedule your yearly well-woman exam (if you haven’t already).

  • Seek out local businesses run by women and support them!
